Chemex Brewing Tips
To brew coffee with a Chemex pour over, follow these steps:
1. Start by heating water to the desired brewing temperature. The ideal temperature range is between 195-205°F (90-96°C).
2. Place a Chemex paper filter in the top of the Chemex, making sure that the triple-folded portion is facing the pouring spout. Rinse the filter with hot water to remove any paper taste and preheat the brewing vessel.
3. Grind your Fuzion coffee beans to a medium-coarse consistency, similar to sea salt. The optimal coffee-to-water ratio for a Chemex is 1:16, meaning for every gram of coffee, you'll need 16 grams of water. Adjust the amount according to your desired serving size.
4. Pour the ground coffee into the filter, ensuring it forms an even bed. Level the grounds gently by lightly shaking the Chemex.
5. Begin the brewing process by pouring a small amount of water over the coffee grounds, just enough to saturate them. Allow the coffee to bloom for approximately 30 seconds. This allows the gases trapped in the freshly roasted coffee to escape, resulting in a more flavorful cup.
6. Once the blooming period is complete, start pouring water in a slow, circular motion, starting from the center and working your way outward. Aim to pour the water evenly over the grounds, without letting them touch the sides of the filter. Maintain a steady, controlled pour to avoid over-agitation.
7. Continue pouring the water until you have reached the desired coffee amount or until the Chemex is filled. Take care not to let the water level exceed the "max" mark on the Chemex.
8. Allow the coffee to drip through the filter, maintaining a slow and steady flow. This process should take around 3-4 minutes.
9. Once the dripping has stopped, carefully remove the filter, holding it by the edges to prevent any contact with the grounds. Dispose of the filter and grounds.
10. Serve the freshly brewed coffee immediately and enjoy its aromatic flavors and smooth taste.
Remember, brewing with a Chemex pour over is a precise and meticulous process that requires attention to detail. Experiment with different grind sizes, water temperatures, and pour techniques to find your perfect cup of coffee.
